Behind the Lens: A Headshot Session with New York Times Bestselling Author Toni Anderson

I've had the pleasure of photographing many professionals in my career, but it’s always an extra special experience to work with someone whose work leaves a lasting impression. When New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Toni Anderson reached out for new headshots, I was thrilled.

Toni was a joy to work with, and her friendly, warm personality made the session so much fun. It was only after our session, when I picked up her "Cold Justice" series, that I was completely hooked—I couldn't put down the first book and am already obsessed with the second one! It was an absolute pleasure to photograph someone whose creative talent I've come to admire so much.

Toni's work is the perfect blend of gripping suspense and emotional depth. We wanted her headshots to reflect that balance—to capture her friendly, approachable personality while also conveying the confidence and authority of a successful thriller author. To achieve this, we chose two classic Victoria locations for our session.

First, we started at Market Square. The blend of historic brick, modern architecture, and unique details provided a fantastic urban backdrop. We captured a series of shots here that feel polished, professional, and contemporary. The light was perfect, and Toni was a natural in front of the camera.

Next, we headed to the beach, a fitting tribute to her background as a former marine biologist. The serene coastal environment and beautiful natural light offered a soft, yet powerful contrast to the urban shots. These photos feel both thoughtful and approachable, a perfect fit for an author who values both the grittiness of her stories and the emotional core of her characters. It was a true pleasure to work with her, and the final images beautifully showcase the multiple facets of her professional brand.
