Headshot Resources: Preparing for Your Actor Headshot Session

Professional Headshot Photographer For Actors | Victoria, BC (Vancouver Island) Headshot Portrait Photographer

Whether you’re just getting started in acting or you’re a seasoned acting pro, a professional actor headshot is an extremely impactful marketing tool to help you land the auditions and roles of your dreams!

Leading up to your actor headshot session, you may be wondering how to best prepare for your session.

I’ve prepared a list of the top three ways to get ready for your session to set you up for amazing actor headshot results.

  1. Expression

Practice a variety of poses and expressions leading up to your actor headshot session. This will help you easily get into the zone during your photo shoot and you may also discover certain preferences you have for angles, poses, etc. Your actor headshot session with me is fully guided, but sharing your insights with me about your personal preferences will ensure we focus on achieving images that you will love.

  2. Clothing

It’s important to consider what types of characters or personalities you will most likely audition for when choosing the right outfit. As a general rule, I normally recommend wearing a simple, flattering top (avoid distracting patters or bright colours) to ensure all of the focus is on you.

  3. Hair and Makeup

Subtle hair and makeup is key for actor headshots. It’s also important to wear your hair and makeup in a way that you would to an audition so that casting directors can easily recognize you in person after seeing your headshot image.

If you’ve been thinking about updating your headshots, I would love to chat with you about the images you would like to create.
